Following new guidelines issued by the FA on 18 July permitting the resumption of competitive football, the Club implemented a detailed risk assessment and established procedures in line with the guidance so that fixtures can once again be played at School Lane. The first of these was a friendly between the First Team and the Reserves on 5 August. Subsequent games have been hosted by teams from across the Club ranging from the U7s to U18s and the senior teams, including Lawford Ladies. In total, there are over 30 friendlies scheduled to be played at School Lane in August.
After a five month break it is tremendous to see play back at School Lane with all involved looking forward to the prospect of the 2020/21 season starting in September. However, there remain challenges to be navigated. It is essential that all participants – players, coaches, officials and spectators - comply with the FA Guidelines and the Club’s protocols. The Club will continue to monitor these and assess whether any modifications are needed. There is also further work to be done in order to reopen the coffee shop and bar, both of which are important revenue generators for the Club. The changing rooms are likely to remain closed for some time.
In the meantime, let’s enjoy the rest of the summer, coming together as teams to play the game and the pleasure of seeing familiar faces on the touchline once again.
